Daniel Hicky was a planter in the District of Manchac, West Florida, Louisiana. His son, Philip Hicky, operated several large plantations including Hope Estate Plantation. As captain of cavalry in the Spanish militia, Philip Hicky was active in the West Florida Rebellion (1810); during the War of 1812, he served as a colonel in the 11th Regiment, Louisiana Militia.
